Beatrice Lavallee on Treaty Four

Beatrice Lavallee discusses Canada and its treaties

» View Movie

The treaty was for this land, for all of Canada. Look at all the minerals and the resources that they’ve taken from her. Like I said a little earlier, but we’re still not up to par with the society. Come to visit sometimes on the reserves and have a look and you’ll see how we live and how, what we are and you would think that they’d honour our treaties because of all the resources we (*inaudible) all of Canada that we call it.

And that name Canada too is uhhh, is uhhh a lot of the people they don’t understand Cree of course at that time, but I guess when they first settled, when the first people got here I guess the Indians said Canada and the translation to Canada is claimed. It means claimed.
