Male Speaker: So uhmmm Beatrice can you tell me who are and where you, where you come from?
Beatrice:
Ok my uhmmm, first of all when I was a little girl I was given a name by my grandfather. It was uhhh Iskeegoweeness, Uskeegoweeness (**phonetic). That’s spirit, I mean that’s my spiritual name and uhhh translation to that is uhmmm the sky is my namesake and the earth is my namesake. Maqueenay (**phonetic) we call it. That is what I grew up with. And I also grew up with another nickname. I was called Mywaish (**phonetic). And the few people that, my age still call me that at home.
And so that’s how I knew myself as, as those names, but my name, the name I go by today is Beatrice Lavallee.
