1787: First Qu’Appelle Trading Post Fort Espérance

Fort Espérance was founded by the Northwest Company. The fort served as an important pemmican fort for the Assiniboine River district and formed a vital link to the northern fur trade.

Fort Espérance was abandoned in 1810, during a period of intense rivalry with the Hudson Bay Company, and rebuilt in 1816; it remained in full operation until 1819.
