Col.–Sgt. Henry Joseph Woodside (1856–1929)

1864: Hudson’s Bay Company

In 1864, Fort Qu’Appelle was established as a trading post for the Hudson’s Bay Company. The post served upriver traffic while trading with several of the remote inland posts.

In 1872, the fort was abandoned but the community built in its shadow remained, eventually becoming the present town of Fort Qu’Appelle.
