1886: Summer fallow method accidentally discovered
During The North-West Resistance several Qu’Appelle area farmers left their land fallow over the summer of 1885 to aid in the Resistance.
In 1886 a drought plagued the region and farmers found that the land left fallow the year before yielded a better crop than fields that had been planted in succession.
